Still Alive
It’s been a long time since my last post so I’d figured I’d make a new video for your eyes to enjoy. A lot of new features are in, of which there is guns and corvette class ship dogfight behavior.
D.S.S. will feature epic space battles with tons of ships and lots of pew pew. So this is where i am in the development of such battles.
Pew pew pew!
Wow looking really awesome!
It looks as if they follow some sort of flocking behavior before they get into battle. Once engaged though do they still care about staying close to their flock? Or do they just follow the attack until it’s resolved and then return to the flock?
It’s somewhat of an emergent behavior since they usually gang up on one ship. They actually determine how much ships should attack the same target to take it down reasonably fast, hence making some sort of flock. They just attack the target until it’s dead then target another. When the fight is over they stay where they are. But if they would be part of a fleet, they’d go back to their assigned position.
Pretty simple A.I. actually
Ah cool, I love seeing emergent behavior like that. Makes me think we’ll look on and marvel unknowingly as Skynet assembles it’s self
I’ll be honest. I totally forgot this!
Really really nice!
Not much left to do actually.
- skysphere-graphics more merging on the cutting line of the background-texture
- bullets better visible
- maybe better view on how damaged a ship actually is
- some ambient objects
- some story-stuff
and voila – Homeworld 3.
hmm very similar to my pet project
Looks like we have found some of the same models from turbosquid

Good luck!
How are you implementing your fleet cohesiveness and escort AI?
Ships that are part of a fleet can be set to keep their position within the fleet no matter what. In which case all ships move at the same speed in the same direction and fire to enemies in range. However, they may be allowed to temporarily quit formation to engage other ships. They then follow a “chasing” behavior (i.e. dogfight).
As for the escort, it’s still somewhere in my todo list
The fighter behavior reminds me of Homeworld. That game had formations and behaviors you could set for groups.
Thinking on the idea of the generational ship..
They would be masters of recycling.. When your traveling in the deep black you can’t afford to truly throw anything away.
With that in mind they should be able to salvage resources from ships destroyed in battle, perhaps reverse engineering tech from enemies or capturing/repairing enemy ships.
This is definitely a game I will be keeping an eye out for.
